Delphi 2009
On Wednesday 23rd of September, the Transition Year group departed
from the school gate at 9.05 am. It was a long journey up to Delphi Mountain
Resort in Mayo but we stopped in
Galway for our lunch. We arrived there at 2.15pm and straight away we were told
to get onto the Delphi bus which would take us to Clew Bay where we would
surf. Most of us had never
experienced surfing before so we were excited about it. The waves were very strong
and only a few managed to stand up on the board. We all really enjoyed it.The
next activity was the bog walk at night time. We set out on what we thought
would be a peaceful stroll…. However by the end of the walk, most of the
group were completely covered in muck from falling and jumping into bog holes.
Two members of TY, who shall remain nameless, tackled each other and fell head
first into a bog hole and got destroyed with muck. At the end of the walk, we
jumped into a lake to try clean ourselves off a bit.The next day we went kayaking
near Delphi resort. We had a great time. Most of us jumped off a pier at the
start into the freezing water. We had races against
each other in the kayaks and played games in the water with the instructors.
On our last day one group did rock climbing and the zip-wire and the other group
did team tasks and the high ropes. The zip-wire, and the high ropes were the
highlights of that day and everyone was glad they did it.We all had great fun
at night, sneaking into each others rooms and just messing about in the conservatory.
The craic was unbeatable and the trip really brought
everyone closer and gave us more confidence to talk to people they wouldn’t
normally be friends with. The activities were enjoyable and very well organised. We
would like to thank Mrs Breda Maher and Ms Sarah Nolan for accompanying us on
our trip.
