Agricultural Science Homepage

Agricultural Science is a Leaving Cert subject which is available to all students in Our Lady's. Students choose the subject for a variety of reasons. Some are interested in farming and use the subject as an introduction to agricultural college or university courses in agriculture. Others take it to maximise points for a course that may have little to do with agriculture, and still others are attracted by the practical element which is completed in sixth year and carries one quarter of the total marks. There is also a mistaken view that agricultural science is an "easy" subject . Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is possible to do well in it, but students who get good grades in the end work as hard as they do in any other subject.

It is not necessary to have any agricultural or scientific background to take Agricultural Science as a leaving cert subject. In fact some of our most successful students in the past had no contact with farming before they began the subject but developed an interest in it over the course of the two years. However, students who grew up on a farm or work on a farm find many of the concepts dealt with easier to grasp initially.
