Agricultural Science Project

Back to Agricultural Science Homepage

The project can involve a study of any topic related to the agricultural science course. Since it accounts for one quarter of the exam and can be completed well before the written exam, students are advised to begin this work towards the end of fifth year or the beginning of sixth year. Most students in Our Lady's do the project on some aspect of dairying, beef or sheep production. It is best to base the project on some enterprise with which the student is familiar. For example, a project might look at a dairying enterprise. It would examine the enterprise throughout the year beginning by giving its scale and then discussing the subject under a number of headings including, the cow indoors, the cow at grass, breeding policy, replacement rates, milk quality, grazing management, conservation of winter feed etc. Or someone who takes sheep as a subject might look at a mid season flock using the following headings: size of enterprise, flock assembly, flushing, mating, management in mid pregnancy, managing lambing, rearing, etc. It is very important that the project is the student's own work.

If there is any evidence of plagarism of work done in previous years or in other schools the Department of education is notified.

A study of Replacement Heifers is an excellent idea for a project
